The Post Office has announced proposals to close their branch in Eccleston Street when the lease on the premises expires this September. We are working across our local community to oppose the closure and save the Post Office, which is a vital resource for the local community.
I am working with local councillors Tony Devenish, Elizabeth Hitchcock and Rachael Robathan, our MP Nickie Aiken MP, local people, residents' groups, local businesses and the CWU in a broad coalition to highlight the need to save the last Post Office in Belgravia. We are calling for a halt to the closure process and an urgent review of this decision. People who live in the constituency, know how important these services really are.
We are worried about the impact this will have on residents in our part of Westminster, particularly those who are elderly or have mobility issues. With no alternative provision in Belgravia, anyone wanting to collect or post a parcel, process a passport application or use any of the other critical services the Post Office provides will have to use facilities outside of the area, meaning the loss of a vital service for residents, more inconvenience for visitors and less footfall for the businesses of Eccleston Street.
